Jingle Bell Jingle Bell, Jingle all the way

Jingle Bell Jingle Bell, Jingle all the way

Dec 25, 2025

Merry Christmas!

On December 25, as festive lights warm the world, our thoughts should turn more to the shores of Lake Changjin 73 years ago — in that icy hell where temperatures plummeted to minus 40 degrees Celsius, the soldiers of the Chinese People's Volunteers wrote an epic of heroism that shook heaven and earth with their flesh and blood.

They may have still carried the dust of their hometowns on their clothes and cherished the earnest entrustments of their loved ones, yet in the bitter cold, they shed their youthful innocence and became "ice statues" standing sentinel at their positions: clad in thin cotton-padded coats and short of provisions, they lay motionless in ambush in the snow. Their fingers frozen stiff, they still clung tightly to their rifles; their eyelashes frosted over, they still fixed their gaze firmly on the enemy’s direction. No one is born a hero. It was their choice to uphold the faith of "defending our country and protecting our people" that led them to willingly sacrifice their lives against the bitter cold and artillery fire, forging an indestructible shield for the motherland and people behind them.

The victory of the Battle of Lake Changjin is not a cold tally of military achievements, but a glory warmed by the blood of countless young lives. It was these "most beloved people" who, under extremely harsh conditions, shattered the enemy’s arrogance, turned the tide of the battle, and showed the world the unyielding will of the Chinese soldiers. Their sacrifices have won us the peaceful life we enjoy today — a life free from suffering hunger and cold in the bitter winter, and from displacement amid the flames of war.
Festivals may be celebrated, but heroes must never be forgotten. As we embrace this era of peace and prosperity, we must always remember where this tranquility comes from — it was paved with the lives of countless martyrs. To honor the ice and snow of Lake Changjin and the heroism of the "Ice Sculpture Company" is not to perpetuate hatred, but to inherit the noble spirit of patriotism embodied in the line: "For the sake of the country, one would risk life and death; how could one be swayed by personal fortune or misfortune?" We must cherish the present, forge ahead with resolve, and strive to make the motherland — the very land these heroes gave their lives to defend — stronger and warmer with each passing day.

This is a collective memory of the Chinese nation, and more importantly, a spiritual monument etched into the very soul of our people. Heroes are immortal; we, the descendants, must strive for self-improvement!
